Plextor Launches SSD with Speeds up to 540MB/s and 450MB/s

Plextor is one of the renowned names when it comes to digital storage and as such, they had ventured into a new field which is the SSD. The company had just announced the launch of the Plextor M5 Pro which is one seriously fast drive. We are talking about speeds of up to 540MB/s when it comes to read and 450MB/s write. In addition to that, the M5 Pro is also capable of delivering up to 94,000 IOPS for read and 86,000 IOPS for write.

The Plextor M5 Pro aims at high-performance and high-reliability usage and as such, a lot of things have been taken into consideration. For example, the controller for this SSD is the Marvell 88SS9187 Monet controller. This means that you will be getting 128-bit error correction system as well as hardware encryption of the US Government standards of AES. You are also looking at full-drive encryption as well.

If you are interested to get one of these, the Plextor M5 Pro is available at a size of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The timeframe on which it will be on sale is mid-August 2012 and this isn’t very far out either. If you need a highly reliable SSD, then the M5 Pro suits the bill well.
