Taiwan based ASUS is entering the smartphone arena in 2014 with its ZenPhone product line. The company plans to launch 3 products under this brand with different screen sizes, i.e., 4 inches, 5 inches, and 6 inches. These display screen sizes are closer to those of “phablets” rather than smartphones. ASUS is basically a tablets and computers manufacturer, so products like these are not surprising from it.
There is a 5 megapixel camera in the rear of ZenFone 4 apart from another camera in front. The display of this smartphone has WVGA panel of 4 inches. The resolution of this screen is 800 by 480. ZenFone 4 will be available in 5 colors.
In ZenFone 5 ASUS has integrated its PixelMaster technology with the camera. The rear camera in this is a 8 megapixel unit. It includes image stabilization technology and BSI sensor. Externally though, this product resembles ZenFone 4. ASUS intends to offer this in four different colors, including gold, and red apart from traditional black and white. The rear camera in ZenFone 6 is of 13-megapixels. Even the battery in this larger screen phablet is larger. Its HD resolution screen boasts of 720pixels.
ASUS’s smartphones will be equipped with an in-house user interface which is identified as ZenUI. The main component of ZenFone 4 is Intel’s Z2520 Atom processor. ASUS has opted for the Quad Thread technology for this product out Intel’s hyper technology product range. The processor gives the device a speed of 1.2GHz. The Operating System on which these smartphone will run is Android 4.3.
ZenFone 5 also has Intel’s Atom processor, but it is superior to the ZenFone 4 because of its 2GHz speed.
ZenFone 6 also has the same processor as its predecessor, with the same speed. It also runs on Android 4.3 OS. This phablet is to have a memory of 1GB.
ASUS is able to offer a smartphone for just $99. This should delight the gadgets world and many people in upcoming CES 2014 will be talking about it. The company is also paving way for the transition from smartphones to phablets since phablets combine best of smartphones and tablets.
