Finally, near retina quality HD displays are in Android tablets too. Acer will ship the Iconia Tab A700 later this month while the preorders have begun today. A grey or black 32 GB model will retail for $449.99. The high-end tablet compares to the likes of gadgets like the Asus TF300 Transformer Pad and Acer’s own A510 Iconia Tab.
Measuring 10.2 x 6.9 x 0.43 inches and weighing 1.47 lbs, the design is not particularly sleek but not bulkier either. The iPad, a bit smaller than the A700, is just 0.37 inches thick and weighs just about the same. The Acer Iconia Tab A700 has a 10.1” HD display with a high resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels at 224ppi although it is still less than the iPad screen resolution of 2048 x 1526 pixels. The screen has an aspect ratio of 800:1 and a wide 178-degree viewing angle.
A Tegra 3 quad 1.3 GHz Nvidia processor, 1 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage space, will run the A700. It will be launched in the 4.0 Android ICS platform. Other specifications are- Wi-Fi, Blutooth 2.1 and comes with a 5 MP rear and 1 MP front camera. However, there is no 3G version of the tablet.
