Archos 5 Internet Tablet Android

The Archos 5 Internet tablet with Android has been in the market for quite some time. At first look the Archos 5 Internet tablet with Android is an effective internet device. However, the device has been plagued with software issues that was only fixed after three major firmware updates.

Because of the firmware update, the Archos 5 tablet has become more reliable as it increased the battery life and has become more stable. The Archos 5 Internet tablet offers a lot of functions to its users, which is not a surprise, the question is, is it capable of performing all those functions well.

Like most portable devices, this device offers uses a great way to watch videos. Videos and Photos are crisp and bright on the 4.8” screen that has an 800×480 resolution. Like other media players, the Archos does well in playing audio and video; putting the rest of the functions at second priority for the developer of the Archos.

Majority of portable media players claim that their battery life lasts longer than their competitors and they each product offers a different battery life; what’s similar with all of them is the fact that only a few of those portable media players deliver the battery life they promise. The Archos 5 offers a 7 hour battery life; and as testing shows, the Archos 5 Internet tablet with Android, with the right display and volume settings, can last up more than 6 hours.

The Archos 5 tablet boasts a simple user interface. For example, the music player displays a basic interface that shows the music buttons and displays the album artwork. As much as the music player is a simple and user-friendly interface, the speakers of the Archos are a bit too small to produce a good tune; although they are quite adequate for playing podcasts. If you would like enjoy your favorite songs, then it is much better for you to use a good pair of headphones. The battery life lasts up to 22 hours, if the Archos is used solely for music playing.

A downside to the video player is that the Archos video player does not support 720p WMV and mp4 playback; to able to do so, you must pay an extra $40 for the company to unlock these capabilities. These are features, in my opinion, that should be included in the basic package of the portable media player.

Web browsing is quite a breeze in the Archos 5 Internet tablet with Android. With the 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU that powers the tablet, browsing and surfing is a breeze. Generally, the Archos 5 Internet tablet with Android is a good mobile browser, however, playing web videos on it can be sometimes good and sometimes bad. Youtube recently tweaked their APIs which makes it impossible to view videos on your tablet as it causes the browser to freeze and require a reboot. If you need to watch videos, the Archos has a Dailymotion media player installed. To make browsing a breeze, the Archos 5 has a keyboard that responds well to your browsing needs.

All in all, the Archos 5 Internet tablet with Android is a great first attempt of Archos to produce an Android gadget.
