Windows 8 was announced as available for testing by Microsoft today in Barcelona, MWC. The public will have an opportunity to test the new look interface of Windows 8 by downloading the free trial. Windows 8 will be available soon in the market for tablets and smartphones, in addition to desktops and notebooks.
There are two versions of Windows 8- one that works on ARM devices like smartphones, tablets and other portable devices and the other based on Intel chips for notebooks and desktops. Only the Intel version for desktops and laptops have been released, while Windows 8 for ARM microprocessors will be released for consumer preview at a later date. No release dates have been specified for the launch of the new OS across gadgets and platforms.
Microsoft’s new operating system will compete with the supremacy of Google and Apple in small and portable devices. Windows 8 for ARM devices may present the vastly popular Windows PC platform in portable devices too. In addition, experiencing the same OS in different platforms and gadgets is a tremendous plus. However, Windows 8 will have to prove its worth that it is equally suitable for smartphones, tablets and desktop PCs, and that- time will tell us.
