Microsoft has entered the wearable segments with Microsoft band, which is a fitness monitoring device. This gadget would cost about $199. Basically, it is a device that is to be worn on the wrist. It is capable of keeping a record of quality of sleep, pulse rate, and the number of calories that are burnt during any exercise regimen.
Microsoft has also introduced Microsoft Health for all its mobile gadgets. This application can be used to collect information from Microsoft Bank and store it in cloud storage for future retrieval. It is certainly a useful application considering the size of the fitness device and its limited storage. The advantage of Microsoft Health is that it is compatible with Windows Phone as well as Android Smartphones and iPhones.
There is little else to write home about the device except that it includes GPS functionality and access to cloud. Microsoft is not the first to come up with such smart watches. Apple was the first to come up with one which will be freely available in the market at the beginning of 2015. Samsung also introduced Galaxy Gear. Both these companies came up with their products in September and will, therefore, have the advantage of lead time. It remains to be seen how Microsoft Band holds up against them and what new and additional features will eventually form part of the device.
