360-Degree Video Capture on iPhone is 50% Funded

The kickstarter project named Dot is a 360-degree panoramic video capture device designed for the iPhone 4. The video streams can be shared real-time with your friends on Facebook or Twitter. It’s currently about 50% funded on kickstarter and they are looking for more funds to get the project off the ground.

I think it would be pretty cool if you could re-navigate an experience with your own, free-motion point-of-view. The sort of 3d capture you achieve can be immersive and create a whole new way of watching videos. Plus, it’s definitely something you can show off to your friends.

The only thing I wonder about is the versatility of being able to capture and still use the phone. Will the angles be fixed? Do you have to hold the camera a certain way to get the best capture? It seems quite tricky to use.

What do you think of this new (upcoming) gadget?
