If you can’t beat them, join them seems to be the policy Apple is adopting. If sources are to be believed, the Cupertino based smartphone manufacturer is actually adding two phablets to its portfolio. It may be recalled that Apple was the first to launch smartphones in the market, with its iPhone. Therefore, resistance on its part to move towards gadgets such as phablets was only expected.
Screen Sizes in the New Products
A phablet is best described as a device that is a cross between a smartphone and a tablet. Therefore, bigger screen when compared to smartphones is almost mandatory. One of the two new phablets that Apple is planning to introduce will have a screen size of 4.5 inch whereas the size of the screen of other phablet would be about 5 inch. These measures actually represent the diagonal length of the screens. It may be recalled that the maximum screen size in any of the iPhones, i.e., iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s is 4 inch only.
Other Features of Apple’s Phablets
Unconfirmed sources suggest that metal casing would be used to hold the circuitry of these devices, which is quite unlike the plastic case in iPhone 5c. Not much is known about other features in these Apple products. There were speculations about Apple using the curved screen technology it recently acquired patent for in these handsets. However, there is a remote chance of that technology being integrated.
It is a case of better late than never. Phablets markets will wipe out smartphones as well as tablets just like laptops wiped out desktops, and tablets wiped out laptops. Technology is forever changing, and it is necessary to be honest about the inconvenience in Internet usage on smartphones, even with all its advanced capabilities. Phablets, on the other hand, will offer best of the both tablets and smartphones. If indeed Apple is likely to desert its bread and butter products in favor of new trends, then it will certainly retain a larger market share.
