KDDI signs deal to be Apple’s carrier in Japan

KDDI Corp which is currently the second largest mobile carrier by subscriber in Japan has caught the rights to sell iPhone 5.

KDDI and Apple Join hands

This was reported in a news report on Thursday. This is a blow to its rival Softbank. Apple and KDDI have already agreed and signed a deal for the sale of the highly awaited new version of the iPhone gadget. This deal is definitely a threat to Softbank and the dominance in the market that it enjoyed till now as it was the only partner of Apple in Japan. This has been reported by the Japanese newspaper Nikkei in its online edition, the sources remain unnamed.

Preparations to be Made

But before KDDI is ready to roll out iPhone 5 some preparation needs to be done on its part. Apple will launch the new iPhone in October and obviously KDDI will not be ready till then. It is expected that Apple will launch the new model in Japan in collaboration with Softbank. Softbank is the third largest mobile carrier in Japan by subscriber. Till now it was only carrier for Apple in Japan and hence enjoyed the monopoly in the market. According to Nikkei Softbank’s shares swooped down by almost 12 percent to 2282 yen.
