Archos 101 XS is the first tablet from the G10 series of the French electronics manufacturer. The package comes with a detachable keyboard that can take the role of a support stand and protective cover for the screen.
The tablet uses Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, running with a dual-core chipset TI OMAP 4470 and 1 GB RAM. Along with the 8 GB internal memory plus a microSD slot that supports cards up to 64 GB. On the cover of 8 mm thick we can find a micro USB port, micro HDMI output and headphone connector with a jack of 3.5mm.
Besides its TFT LCD display with 1280×800 pixels resolution we find a mono speaker and camera for video calling. The back cover got a polished aluminum finish and doesn’t hide extras like a camera – in this case excluded for cost reduction reasons.
Its removable keyboard is equipped with retractable arm supporting the tablet and magnetic frame for fixing the screen during transport. Also the docking port is equipped with magnetic fastening that prevents accidental deployment of the tablet. Chiclet type keys are not full-size but large enough for comfortable use. Unlike the keyboard that comes with the Asus Transformer tablet, the implementation of those from Archos does not include touchpad or auxiliary battery, thereby reducing costs and final weight.
The Archos 101 XS tablet is offered bundled with detachable keyboard for a price of about $400.
