We can never do a complete price comparison unless we consider what both the gadgets have to offer for their respective costs. So let us first get into the spec details of the latest Apple iPad 2 and the BlackBerry PlayBook.
iPad 2 Vs. PlayBook
Apple has already established itself in the market with its iPad. The iPad 2 has been more of a rage than the original one.
Though very good looking and stylish with a beautiful design and amazing features, the PlayBook has the disadvantage of being very new in the tablet market.
In terms of height, width and depth, the iPad 2 has dimensions of 241.1×185.7×8.8mm. The PlayBook, on the other hand, measures 130x194x10mm. While the iPad weighs 613 grams, the PlayBook weighs only 425 grams.
This makes the PlayBook much lighter, hence much more portable.

The PlayBook includes a 7” LCD capacitive multi-touch display, with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels.
Processor and OS
The iPad 2 is powered by a 1GHz Dual Core Apple A5 processor and runs the Apple iOS 4.3, developed by the company itself.
The PlayBook, on the other hand, runs a 1GHz Dual Core Processor and the BlackBerry Tablet OS, with symmetric processing and 1GB RAM.
The iPad 2 offers a faster version of the Safari Browser, along with support for mail attachments and video playback. It does not support Flash though.
The PlayBook offers a fantastic web browsing experience, with full support for Adobe Flash 10.1 and also HTML5 for better graphics and video.
Both the tablets ace in this area, with both offering different configurations, such as the following:
- Apple iPad 2 – 3G, 3G+WiFi
- BlackBerry PlayBook – WiFi only, 4G PlayBook with WiFi+WiMax, with WiFi+LTE, with WiFi+HSPA.
Both these tablets offer Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR support.
The Apple iPad 2 offers uninterrupted Internet surfing on WiFi for up to 10 hours. The BlackBerry PlayBook offers more or less the same battery life.
