Readius – eBook reader / tablet PC / Smartphone

It seems that 2011 is the year of revolutionary concepts and gadgets. However today I am presenting an awesome concept that has been first heard of in 2007 and 2008 – by the name of Readius eBook. The company that launched the project – Polymer Vision – has lost his funding and the project has stopped. Then the company was taken over by Wistron and the Readius concept with flexible screen was restored in discussions. Below is a the newest announced model Mobile World Congress (MWC) – with monochrome display.

The project is still under analysis and creation. But chances are that this concept will soon be released. The emphasis is placed on its flexible display and not on its E-Ink screen. Thus we have the chance to see a color and flexible screen, which can be folded to the size of a Smartphone.

I think the manufacturers don’t have something clear. From that image you can see that is a Tablet PC, an eBook reader and even a Smartphone. The final project will look probably different. Anything is possible, plus it needs 1-2 years to develop the technology to implement the idea of those from Polymer Vision.

It seems an interesting concept and I look forward to see if it will enter mass production.
