The Hulu Plus video streaming service has been quietly added to the Apple TV, and the subscription service popped up into Apple TV screens without the need of a software update. New users will receive a one-week free trial while existing users can just log in to their account.
The Hulu Service
Launched in 2010 offering access to back episodes of some popular TV shows the video streaming services are available for $7.99 a month. The Hulu Plus service is already available in other Apple gadgets the iPhone or iPad.
Expanding Apple TV
Apple TV services have been on a steady rise, and the list of third party content providers grows. They now include YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo, MLB TV, NHL, NBA, and WSJ Live apart from Hulu Plus. These are also available in the iTunes app store.
NBA, MLB and 5.1 surround sound for Netflix was added in March last year while Wall Street Journal Live, NHL, iTunes trailers, AirPlay Morning and Photo Stream were added in a software update that came in October. More functionality will be added when the iOS 6 update rolls out later this year, like reordering the icons and more AirPlay control to stream audio to external devices effectively.
